Job Description

To provide vision and leadership for the Children’s Ministry program for children from infant through 5th grade. The DCM will partner with parents in teaching kids about the love and grace of Jesus Christ. The DCM will help to provide a safe, loving and nurturing environment in our nursery and children’s area. As a member of the Grand Lakes Presbyterian staff, the DCM will work with parents, pastors, staff, children’s ministry committee and volunteers to ensure all programs are grounded in our Presbyterian beliefs and align with the overall vision and mission of Grand Lakes Presbyterian Church.

The responsibilities and activities of the DCM position include, but are not limited to:


– Work with the Children’s Elder and Early Childhood Elder to recruit, provide direction and maintain Children’s Committee members

– Communicate regularly with volunteers, parents and the church as a whole

– Assist with definition, planning and implementation of key activities and events

– Monitor nursery staff, teachers and children on Sunday mornings

– Organize and maintain children’s ministry equipment and supplies

– Build and maintain the Children’s Ministry budget in alignment with annual goals

Maintain a safe environment:

– Ensure our Safe Sanctuary Policy is consistently upheld

– Oversee policy & procedure to provide a safe, healthy environment

– Supervise and work with the Nursery lead in coordinating, hiring and ensuring CPR/First Aid qualifications are met and maintained for Nursery staff

– Set up ACS check point kiosks for Sunday mornings and ensure smooth check in procedure


– Serve as an advocate, role model and spiritual mentor to our children

– Recruit, train, schedule and coordinate Sunday School teachers and volunteers

– Give occasional children’s message during Sunday morning worship

– Oversee and coordinate the selection and implementation of Sunday school and Vacation Bible School curriculum

– Effectively use technology in bringing Gospel to children and their families by possessing a working knowledge of technological tools


– Welcome new families to Grand Lakes Presbyterian Church on Sunday mornings and follow up throughout the month

– Minister to Children’s Ministry families and workers (hospital visits, notes of encouragement)


The DCM position reports to the Pastor

Work Hours:

This is expected to be a full time position, approximately 40 hours per week which includes Sunday mornings and evenings as needed




The DCM should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. The DCM will be expected to pursue continuing education classes as needed, including attending conferences and classes that would strengthen their personal spiritual growth and the children’s ministry.


  • Experience in church-based children’s ministry and Christian Education
  • A demonstrated ability to recruit and coordinate volunteers
  • A demonstrated ability to lead and delegate to staff and volunteers


  • Confess and trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Has a loving knowledge of scripture as the inspired Word of God, and its application to children and families
  • Has an understanding of Reformed Christian theology
  • Is faithful in prayer, and can communicate its importance to children and families
