Founded in 1848, Central Presbyterian Church is a vibrant, growing congregation of over 500 members, who come from all around the Des Moines metro area. Our Christian education program has a current active enrollment of 44 children in grades K-5, plus 6 in the nursery, and 18 youth.

Job Description

We are looking for a creative, energetic leader to coordinate our church’s ministry with children (birth through grade 5), youth (grades 6-12), and their families, with the goal of nurturing their growth in faith, in service, and in relationship with each other and with God.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Organize and lead weekly children’s and youth programs on Sundays and Wednesday evenings, which include a mix of faith formation, mission/service projects, fun, and fellowship.
Organize and lead annual special events for children and youth, including Vacation Bible School, Bounce Back Sunday, Trunk or Treat, Christmas pageant, youth ski trip, and summer youth mission trip or camp.
Plan ways for children and youth to be involved in worship on a regular basis, and lead the children’s time in the worship service on Sundays.
Develop supportive relationships with children, youth, and their families, and cultivate a sense of community.
Recruit and train volunteers for children’s and youth programs, conduct background checks and child abuse protection training for volunteers.
Coordinate calendar of children’s and youth activities with other church staff, and provide program schedules and information for publication on an ongoing basis.
Communicate regularly with parents and volunteers regarding children’s and youth programs and events.
Participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly Christian Education Committee meetings.JOB INFORMATION
Full-time, 40 hours/week
Annual salary: $48,000 to 52,000

Beginning August 15, 2022

Bachelor’s degree required, with some coursework in education, religion, or ministry preferred

3+ years experience in Christian education in a congregational setting required, with certification in Christian education preferred
Other experience leading children’s educational programs in a school, camp, or related setting
Enthusiasm, initiative, and an ability to relate well with children, youth, and their families
Strong organizational and communication skills
Vibrant sense of faith and membership in a Presbyterian or other mainline Protestant church
