Chautauqua Institution is a not-for-profit global convener of dialogue on the most significant issues of the day through engagement across four pillars of the arts, education, religion, and recreation. This is a creative opportunity for an intellectually-curious leader to develop new multi-religious programs and contribute to the excellence of a legacy lecture series, bringing together religious voices from a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives, while fostering dialogue and reflection. The Director of Religion Programs will report to and collaborate with the Vice President of Religion to develop, implement, manage, and coordinate religious programming for a diverse and expanding constituency. This position will serve as a leader and primary point of contact for multiple religion programs, focused on educational programs, and with a portfolio of legacy projects as well as the management of new programs. This position will also be responsible for the development and enhancement of contracting, communication, and the management of program budgets, with dedicated attention to the development of digital delivery mechanisms for educational resources to an expanding audience. This work requires knowledge and research proficiency in religion and has a high degree of creative independence, with an emphasis on collaboration, relationship development, and operational excellence.
This position is based on-site at Chautauqua Institution’s Main Campus in beautiful Southwestern New York with on-campus residence required during the Summer Assembly Season from June–August. The flexibility for hybrid telecommuting or remote work outside of summer operations may be considered.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in religious studies, humanities, or social sciences is required. Advanced degree (MDiv, MTS, MA in Religion or Education) is preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 5+ years of combined education and experience in one or more of the following areas: religious studies; religious institutional leadership; educational program development; advanced project management for nonprofit, educational, or religious organizations.
