JOB DESCRIPTION

Congregational United Church of Christ Greensboro, North Carolina, a progressive (designated Open and Affirming and a Creation Justice church), vibrant, creative, open-hearted and justice-minded congregation, is seeking a full-time pastor to provide engaging pastoral and prophetic preaching, compassionate pastoral care, strong leadership in our community service and social justice efforts, guidance for staff, and a great sense of humor!

To ensure the continued health and strength of our faith community and our shared ministry, this new pastor will work alongside our current pastors for several months before their planned retirement at the end of the year.

  • Drawing on the teachings of Jesus to confront injustice and oppression
  • Ability to relate theological/spiritual interpretations to life today (narrative preaching)
  • Appreciating and welcoming a variety of theological perspectives
  • Understanding that the Church community reaches out beyond its walls
  • Ability to inspire others and be inspired by others to move actively toward a vision with courage and commitment
  • Creating connection with congregation in person and online; excellent interpersonal skills

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Master of Divinity, ordained by accredited seminary
  • 3-5 years working in a Church environment (preferred)
  • Organizational leadership experience

 

Accreditation:

Our Lead Pastor should have UCC Standing, have Privilege of Call, or be ordained with one of our Ministerial Partners. In addition, experience serving UCC churches is preferred but not required.

 

Summary:

The Lead Pastor is the ordained staff member whose primary responsibilities are preaching pastoral and prophetic sermons, loving and listening, shepherding and coaching, and growing the faith of both current and future members of our church. The pastor currently supervises the Associate Minister, Choir Director, Accompanist, and Office Manager. The Pastor is the de facto head of all boards and meets regularly with board members and committees to shape the direction of our church.
