Pilgrim Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) is an active, vibrant, theologically generous, and racially diverse community of faithful people. We are deeply committed to improving equity and achieving social justice, both locally and nationally. We strive to create a safe space of welcome and belonging for everyone, a platform from which we can love God, and serve our neighbors in the Oak Park area and beyond. We are open and affirming, welcome migrants and refugees, and seek to always put our faith into action.

Job Summary
Through faith formation, the church seeks to help people, young and old, to grow in their relationship with God, live as disciples of Jesus in the world through engagement in service and mission, develop an understanding of the Bible and our faith tradition, and participate in the life and ministries of our faith community. This position, as an Assistant Pastor of Faith Formation, plays a crucial role in supporting the Senior Pastor and lay leadership by organizing and implementing strategies and activities that directly impact the spiritual growth and community engagement of our congregation.

  • Preach occasionally, roughly 12 times per year

Qualifications/Experience/Skills
An ability to articulate one’s faith and theology and teach it to others in simple, understandable ways is crucial. Experience with leading worship and preaching is also important. A comfort with a variety of theological viewpoints will be helpful.

An MDiv is preferred, although we will happily consider a seminary student actively pursuing a degree.

Time Commitment
12 hours per week.

Benefits
Flexible work hours, a chance to develop vocational skills while serving a vibrant, progressive, healthy congregation. This is a contracted position.
